New · AI Developer Assistant

The age of coding by hand is over.

With the AI Developer Assistant, every developer works like a senior who knows the whole application: every screen, every program, every table. Ask in plain language and get a change that is already checked, explained and ready for your review.

Everybody a senior

The knowledge of your best developer, for every developer.

Seniority used to mean years of knowing where everything is. Now that knowledge is one question away, for the new colleague as much as for the expert.

The old way

1Search the sources for who writes this field.
2Wait for the one colleague who knows that part.
3Write the change by hand, screen and endpoint.
4Compile, fix the typo, compile again.
5Hope you did not miss a program that uses it.

With the AI Developer Assistant

✓Ask one question, in your own words.
✓It traces every caller, reader and writer in the code index.
✓It writes the change and explains what and why.
✓The compiler and the RCD rules have already passed.
✓You review it side by side and accept.

Knows your whole application

It looks before it writes.

Every answer starts in a code index of your own application, so the assistant follows the real path from a screen to the database instead of guessing.

Watch it work

From a Jira ticket to a checked proposal.

Right inside the RCD Designer: the assistant reads the ticket, finds the code, writes the change, compiles it and explains it. Nothing is saved.

In the code editor

Every change, line by line. You decide.

The proposal opens next to your own version, with the reason for every change. Accept it, discard it, or ask a follow-up.

✦

Why this change: payments were saved without looking at the customer’s credit limit. The check runs in ValidateRecord, before the record is written, so it also covers imports that use this endpoint. A limit of 0 means “no limit”, as everywhere else in the application.

Developer guardrails

Grounded. Not guessing.

A senior does not invent field names. Neither does the assistant: it works from your real application and proven RCD patterns, and code checks every result.

Real schema only

Every table, field, format and value list is looked up in your actual database definitions before a line is written.

Proven patterns

A library of confirmed screen and endpoint shapes, cross-checked against real production applications.

Checks without AI

The RCD linter and the real OpenEdge compiler catch recurring mistakes for free, before anyone reviews.

Clear boundaries

It may read the RCD framework and legacy windows to understand them, but it never changes them. Read-only designer accounts cannot use it.

Learns every night

Tomorrow it knows what changed today.

While your team sleeps, the assistant updates its knowledge of each project, with low priority and mostly without AI.

Database changesNew and changed tables and fields are picked up.No AI
ApplicationsNew, changed and deleted screens and apps are recorded. No AI
Code indexChanged sources are compiled to refresh who calls, reads and writes what.No AI
Day reportA short report of what changed, with summaries written by a small, low-cost model.
Your corrections become lessons. When a developer corrects a proposal, the assistant keeps the lesson, for example lessons/screen-captions-translation.md, and uses it in later conversations for the whole team. Each project keeps its own knowledge.
FAQ

Questions about the AI Developer Assistant

Does it replace my developers?+

No. It takes the searching, the routine changes and the checks off their hands, so every developer can work with the knowledge of a senior. Developers still decide what is saved.

Does the assistant change my sources?+

No. It only proposes changes. The designer shows the changed screen and the code editor shows every changed file before and after; you save what you accept.

How does it know my application?+

It uses a code index of your application (who calls what, which programs read or write a table or field, which endpoints a screen uses), the database definitions and the confirmed RCD patterns. The index is refreshed every night.

Can it work on a Jira ticket?+

Yes. With your own Jira account it reads the ticket and its attachments. If the fix is clear it proposes it; otherwise it asks at most three precise questions and shows what it found.

What can it not touch?+

The RCD framework and legacy windows: it may read them to understand your application, but it never changes them.

What does it cost?+

The checks and the code index run without AI. Questions use an AI model, with a cost limit per question, and the nightly summaries use a small, low-cost model.

Why RCD?

  • Explore and enjoy the new technical possibilities
  • Meet the modern security requirements
  • Be competitive again on the market
  • Become device independent
  • Reduce development costs
  • And many more advantages…
